The Prohibitive Cost of Rail Travel

This is an issue that really does get my goat: the disgusting price of rail travel in the United Kingdom! When you price-up a simple journey (let us say a return ticket between Birmingham and Newcastle as an example), you are offered prices that are far more expensive than if you were to fly.

You could be looking at ticket prices of over £200 and this would actually allow you to fly to Budapest four times over, in comparison with a certain (not difficult!) airline. Then, of course, you have the fact that rail companies are quite intent on ripping us all off even further, through the fact that they have just announced yet another disproportionate hike in fares of 8% for next year.

It feels like the very national companies that should be giving the public a break, in these times of austerity, are jumping on the bandwagon and sticking the knife in - this is certainly how I view these actions of the rail companies. It is more than enough to make you consider purchasing your own Sterling caravan and taking to the road yourself.

In fact, this is proving to be a far more popular decision than you might realise. Yes, you have the oil companies leeching profits out of us, but if you can grin and bear that, the amount of freedom and flexibility you will derive from a caravanning staycation really has to be worth it.

Clearly the train companies feel that they have a right to rip us off to the extent that they do; well, when money is so tight, it is up to us to refrain from placing our bums on their stained seats and find alternative forms of travel and holiday enjoyment!
